The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) has rejected the request filed by Cristian Terheș, a candidate in the presidential election, to annul the results of the first round. This decision, announced on Monday, clears the way for the second round of voting to proceed on Sunday, December 8.
The CCR previously ordered a review and recount of all valid and null votes to ensure transparency. Following this verification process, the court confirmed the legitimacy of the electoral process, allowing the runoff to take place between independent candidate Călin Georgescu and Elena Lasconi from the USR party.
The December 8 runoff is expected to determine Romania’s next president, concluding a closely contested electoral process.
