A gunman shot and killed five people on Saturday near a migrant camp in the Dunkirk area in northern France, French authorities reported, according to AFP and EFE.
Two migrants and two security agents were shot near the camp, followed by the killing of a 30-year-old man in the nearby town of Wormhout.
A person who claims to have committed these murders has surrendered to the French gendarmerie. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time.
Loon-Plage, where the first four victims were killed, is located just a few kilometers from Dunkirk and is one of the busiest points for illegal migrants attempting to cross the English Channel to the United Kingdom.
