The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) has announced a nationwide authorized protest scheduled for January 12, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM in Bucharest’s University Square.
Message of the Protest
According to a party statement, the demonstration aims to deliver a strong message advocating for the swift resumption of presidential elections. AUR representatives emphasized, “Romanians are waiting for a fresh start with a new government,” referring to the extension of President Klaus Iohannis’s mandate and the annulment of the second round of the presidential elections.
Criticism of the Political Situation
AUR has labeled the annulment of the elections as “a serious violation of democracy” and expressed solidarity with Călin Georgescu, the candidate affected by the decision. The party also criticized the government’s recently adopted “train ordinance,” accusing it of infringing taxpayers’ rights and harming the economy.
Call to Action
The organizers are calling for widespread participation, inviting citizens to join thousands of other Romanians “fighting for their rights and their children’s future.”
