Leeds United Edge Past West Ham 2–1 in Premier League Opener of Matchday 9

Leeds United secured a narrow 2–1 home victory over West Ham United on Friday evening, in the opening fixture of Matchday 9 of the English Premier League.

The hosts made a blistering start at Elland Road, taking a 2–0 lead within the first 15 minutes. Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, followed by Joe Rodon’s goal in the 15th. Despite West Ham’s late push, the London side managed only to reduce the deficit in the final minute of regular time, through Mateus Fernandes (90’).

This result marks Leeds United’s third win of the season, lifting them to 13th place in the standings with 11 points. Meanwhile, West Ham remain second from bottom (19th) with just 4 points, enduring their worst start to a league campaign since the 1973–74 season.

The weekend’s Premier League action continues with Saturday’s fixtures: Newcastle vs Fulham, Chelsea vs Sunderland, Manchester United vs Brighton, and Brentford vs Liverpool. On Sunday, Bournemouth face Nottingham Forest, Arsenal host Crystal Palace, Aston Villa meet Manchester City, Wolverhampton take on Burnley, and Everton play Tottenham Hotspur.
